Tokyo to Hirayu Onsen via Matsumoto

Day 1

After a bit of easy street riding to get used to your motorcycle, you will be leaving Tokyo on a brief stretch of highway. First-timer to Japan, and can't read any Japanese traffic signs? No worries!
We set up your navigation unit with a special set of waypoints that guide you out of the city in the easiest to understand way, using the least crowded roads.

As you depart from Tokyo, your route will take you along the northern side of Mt. Fuji and on towards the Southern Alps and Lake Suwa. Leaving the expressway at Lake Suwa, you will continue along twisty mountain roads toward Mt Kirigamine and on to the famous Venus Line.
This beautiful road climbs and winds towards the Utsukushigahara highlands and Matsumoto. Then, divert off towards Takayama and the Southern Alps.

From there, enjoy the ride which winds its way up the Nomugi Highway, a beautiful scenic cruise, past mountain lakes and valleys to your ryokan hotel at Hirayu Onsen.
Time permitting, take a look at the Shin Hotaka Ropeway, which runs high into the Southern Alps and offers some fantastic photo options!

Day 2
Hirayu Onsen to Fukui

Leaving your hotel, the route will take you through the town of Takayama.

Stop for a quick look at the old town before continuing on to the historic Shirakawago Village, a UNESCO World Heritage site with structures dating back over a thousand years.

You will then cruise along the Lake Midoro Line, a picturesque river and lakeside course that winds its way along before going up for some fun riding in the hills.

A brief stretch of expressway will then bring you to the Kuzaryu valley and onwards to Eihei-ji Temple, which dates back to the 12th century. Continue to your hotel in the village town of Yamanaka Onsen.

Total distance is approx 280 kms and it will take approx 4.5hrs plus sightseeing time.

Fukui to Maizuru-Ine

Day 3

Your ride today includes a coastal cruise along the Japan Sea, firstly to Toujinbou and then onwards to the Mikatagoko (Five Lakes) area. This includes an attractive ride with some great sightseeing and photo spots.

Ride along the Mikatago Rainbow Line, a scenic route winding between the lakes and coastal mountains and on toward Maizuru.
Stop for a break and take some photos at Maizuru or Amanohashidate before continuing on to your hotel.

Total distance today is approx 270km and it will take about 4.5 hours riding time.

Day 4
Maizuru-Ine to Izumo

From your hotel, your course takes you to Funaya, a beautiful seaside fishing port famous for its boathouses and scenery. Continue along the coastline past the Kyoga Misaki Lighthouse to Yuhigaura Onsen and on to the coastal fishing port of Kasumi.
As the ride continues along past the Tottori Sand Dunes, stop for a break at the waypointed coffee shop (yes, its a real shop- not just a mirage).

As you continue past Lakes Koyama and Togo, you are done with the seaside riding for today, and your course veers inland towards Mt. Daisen via the Oyama loop road: a fun twisty mountain road with some great views.

Your route then continues along easy cruising country roads to your secluded onsen hotel.

Total distance is approx 330km and will take about 5 hours of riding.

Izumo to Tomonoura

Day 5

Should you feel inclined for some early sightseeing, head for Izumo Taisha, one of the most famous shrines in Japan.

You can easily spend a hour or so here before heading off on the next leg.

The route will take you across the main island to the Inland Sea, which is a beautiful protected waterway between Honshu and Shikoku islands.

It’s famous for seafood and coastline views, and It is an easy ride along a expressway to your hotel via a sheltered seaside route.

If you feel the need for a more challenging ride, we have it!
Your hotel is right on the tranquil seaside overlooking beautiful Sensui Island, a hidden gem unknown by all but the most knowledgable Japanese travelers.

Enjoy a wander around the town and the scenic spots in the area, and take the 10 minute ferry ride to explore Sensui Island.

Total distance today is 240km and riding time is about 3.5 hrs. .

Day 6
Tomonoura to Kyoto

The goal today is to maximize your time in Kyoto, so your ride is a quick run up the expressway.

Total distance is 280km and it should take about 3 hours, giving you time to enjoy lunch, snacks, and some of the sights, sounds and shopping of Kyoto.

Kyoto to Nishi Izu

Day 7

The majority of your ride today is via expressway to Lake Hamana and Shizuoka, but this is to allow for a ride along the beautiful Suruga bay coastline on winding seaside roads.

You will continue along the coastline to your hotel at Toi.

There are many great photo spots along the route, and time permitting, stop at the Toi Gold Mine. Well worth a visit!

Total distance is just under 400km and it will take approx 4.5-5hrs riding.

Day 8
Nishi Izu to Tokyo via Hakone
Your final day of riding will start along the Nishi Izu Skyline, which gives you some great views of Mt. Fuji in the distance and on towards Shuzenji.

From there, you will continuine on to the Izu Skyline, which runs along the mountain tops towards Hakone. This is a fun road with some great views.

Stop at Lake Ashi, Hakone for a brief rest stop and some photos. Continue onwards along the Ashinoko Skyline, a winding mountain road running along Lake Ashi, which offers some great views of Ashinoko and Mt Fuji.

The scenery is excellent and the riding is fun.
Your route continues onward to Tokyo and the end of your tour.

Today's distance is approx 240km and it will take 4-4.5 hrs.
