Tokyo to Nikko
Day 1

Being your first day, the trip will start with an easy ride along the expressway before veering off onto local roads following a river as the road continues into the foothills surrounding Nikko National Park. The roads are winding and scenic with few tighter places to keep your attention.

As you continue onward the road climbs and will lead you onto Irohazaka a famous winding road to the beautiful Lake Chuzenji. There are many lakeside restaurants etc at which you can take a break before carrying onto your lakeside hotel.

Visit world famous Toshogu Shrine, a World Heritage site, and enjoy the atmosphere of this very popular town. Total Distance approx.190km about 3.5-4hrs riding time.

Day 2
Nikko to Bandai
Leaving Nikko your route winds gently up into the Nikko National Park and onwards to the Nichiei Momiji Line and climbs past the Hunter Mountain ski resort. As you continue onwards toward Nasu Kogen the roads are easy cruising and will show you an interesting local rural lifestyle.

Stop at one of our favorite coffee shops in Nasu Kogen, ride up to the Nasu Ropeway for some great view if time permits. The road continues along some fun twisty roads to Mt. Jeans and onwards to the historic Japanese village Ouchi Juku for some sightseeing.

Your hotel is about 20 minutes ride from here, a lovely spot on the side of a river. Total Distance approx 290km and 5hrs of riding time.

Bandai to Matsunoyama Onsen
Day 3

Start your day with a ride up the Bandai Gold Line to Lake Hibara. Take a quick rest break at the strategically located coffee shop and carry on past Lake Hibara and on toward Mt Yogai on nice uncrowded country roads.

From here your route continues along the riverside and on to the Tadami Dam where can can take a brief rest stop. The road up the mountain alongside the dam is spectacular, followed by an easy twisty ride down the other side towards your onsen hotel, set in a small picturesque mountain village with great atmosphere alongside the Ota River. This is true rural Japan: the country roads are twisting and fun. You should sleep pretty well tonight.

Total Distance is approx 270km and it will take about 5hrs riding time.

Day 4
Matsunoyama to Kusatsu
Todays ride is a little shorter but we do have some more intense options for those wanting a challenge. Leaving your hotel you will ride towards Uonuma, add in the Uonuma Skyline if you wish before continuing on past Nozawa Onsen, a very popular historic Onsen and ski resort town, before heading into the mountains along a great mountain road to leading Shiga Kogen Ski fields.

Continue on past Yokoteyama Ski field stop at the road station at top the climb for some great view and photos. Proceed on past Manza Ski fields before turning off towards your hotel in the beautiful Village of Kusatsu Its worth spending a little time sightseeing here.

Total Distance is approx 200km and it will take 3 to 5hrs depending on the route you choose.

Kusatsu to Tokyo
Day 5

Last Day today, and the ride back includes an easy cruise along country roads past Mount Asama to Karuizawa, a popular holiday which is about 130km from Tokyo.

Time and energy permitting take a break for some coffee and sightseeing before continuing on to join the expressway back to Tokyo.

Distance 160km and it will take approx. 3.5 hours riding time.
